Leaving home in a hurry

A small grab bag and a plan for where to go.

Plan ahead

  • Agree a meeting point and an out-of-area contact everyone can reach.
  • Pack a grab bag: medicines, phone and charger, keys, cash and cards, your printed sheet, water, snacks, warm layers and anything for babies or pets.
  • Think about where your pets could go. Not all emergency shelters take animals.

If told to leave

  • Go promptly, by the route you are given. Do not go back for belongings.
  • Take your grab bag only if it is right there. In a fire, just get out.
  • Let your out-of-area contact know where you are.
